Joan Jett - Good Music

Joan Jett - Good Music - Meaning of the song

Jett wrote this with Kenny Laguna, a producer and songwriter who worked with Tommy James, Jay & the Americans and Tony Orlando before helping Jett with her career as a solo artist. Here's what Kenny said:

"We were trying to say good music as opposed to hack music. The bells are from 'Rag Doll' by The Four Seasons - if you listen carefully, it's the exact same part. We took a bit from 'Take It Easy' by the Eagles. We had The Rolling Stones, we had 'Bang A Gong' by T-Rex. It was just a little homage, we'd take just a tiny bit, not long enough to get sued, but just little bits like the rhythms or melodies. We had 'Layla,' if you listen carefully you can hear a little bit of 'Layla' in the fade. We also had 'Lean On Me' in it."

Good Music - Lyrics

Everyone that I can see is gettin' right in tow

Changin' songs to be on the radio

Now there are things that I believe in

I'd never sell my soul

It always feels so good to hear good music

I need good music--Good good music

It always feels so good to hear good music

How can I get back to you when I'm so far from home

In any port or foreign shore-alone

So many ways to be betrayed believe me when I say

I think that I would die without good music

I need good music--Good good music

It always feels so good to hear good music

I know that I would die without good music

I need good music--Good good music

It always feels so good to hear good music

I know that I would die without good music

And even though you might think it's funny

I couldn't care if there ain't no money

I'm a little mixed up

But I'll be alright

If I can hear a loud guitar all night

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

I need good music--Good good music

It always feels so good to hear good music

It always feels so good to hear good music
